Is it possible to make the servername an alias to the server?
Currrently when running query select @@servername the old server name appears not the current server name. This is because the server was rebuilt as a Vmware box. I know I can replace the servername with the real, current one BUT instead of replacing the old server name with the current one , can you instead put an alias to the current server as the server name?

I have a user that has many stored procedures that use the old server name in cross server joins. This is also an alias to the current server name.

Thanks,

you can do this in active directory, sql configuration manager, or rename the linked server on the client side
