Perhaps a naïve question – I’m moving away from 2000 Enterprise Manager, and using 2008 Management Studio….

In 2000, I could right click a table, OPEN TABLE/QUERY – which would allow me to sort of design a query.

I can’t seem to find this feature in 2008….has it been removed?
Thanks! Dave

If you open a query editor window you should see a menu for Query and under that is Design Query in Editor.

Is there any way to make the "grid" editable? (like it was in 2000)?

If you right click on the table you will find an option to edit 200 rows or something to that effect. I don't ever recommend editing in the grid though.

Gunney,

I saw that, but I was hoping to design my query (with the query design tool) and have an editable grid.

I'd like to know why you don't recommend editing in the grid...seems to me quicker, easier, and somewhat safer to edit a single grid cell, instead of writing a query to update that same cell.

Thanks!

The grid takes locks as soon as you start editing from what I remember and has caused lots of issues in production before. I would rather have a script that I can wrap in a tran if I need to and know exactly what it is going to do.
