I'm shopping around for some kind of external drive to connect to my existing SQL server box (HP DL380 that is connected to an enclosure already but most of the space is used up). I contacted my vendor at Insight and the storage guys are recommending to use a NAS unit for this, Tandberg DPS 2040 . I have never used NAS for storing SQL server database and I've always used some kind of direct attached storage. Apparently with this unit, I'm going to have a great performance because it's going to be using 1GB connection and that it's going to be better than what I have now which is direct SCSI u320 card to my existing enclosure. This is going to be used for our Development/Test environment and that I needed a lot of space so I can restore/delete/run tests on several 200- 300GB databases.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

You can direct connect to NAS, ensure Tandberg DPS 2040 supports that. Not good practice to have unc name for db files.
