There are always 5-6 thousand sessions hanging with status of sleeping. Is there any harm to database having so many sessions like these, or shall I suggest developer to revisit the code. I guess every time they use temp tables there are not closing the sessions. any input appreciated.

Each session needs memory, should ensure apps can reuse connections in pool instead keep opening new connection.

Are these all different spids? If so it sounds like you should be using connection pooling. And yes rm is correct in that each connection uses memory but 6K connections is absurd. I have seen some of the busiest systems in the world with much less connections when done properly.
