Hi guys,

I have 2 instances running on one node (Windows 2008 Enterprise).

First instance is sql 2005 32 bit and secod instance is sql 2008 64 bit.

Now sql 2005 has 2GB max fixed memory assigned and i am wondering if we can do \3G switch so sql 2005 will have 3GB instead but i am not sure if it's possible. Any thoughts on this?

Has 64-bit OS? How much memory does the server have?

Yes, OS is 64-bit and it has 24GB of memory available.

With a 64 bit OS you can enable the /3GB switch and it will actually allow you to use 4GB instead of 3GB. This is a bonus of running under a 64 bit OS.

make sure to set the max memory on the 64x instance so it doesn't starve the 32x instance for memory too
