To the consternation of many in the DBA community, the simple feature of
setting the retention policy to delete old backups and it application to all
subfolders has been removed it seems. In other words, the same functionality
available in the SQL 2000 maintenance plans, and most 3rd pty backup vendor
software no longer exists in SQL 2005. I know there is a cleanup task that
can be added, but its not the same.

I do have a workaround script, but the question is for any on the MS db
team, Is there any intention of putting this feature back in SQL 2005? Why
was this changed this way? Any idea when, if at all? For ex, in the next sp?

many thanks!
