When I try to :

browse the cube or its dimensions from tutorial (lesson 2 from AS 2005 Tutorials )

connect to AS via SQL Server Management Studio.

see or set the remote options of olap servicen in SQL Server Surface Area configuration

And the error is :

Unable to read data from the transport connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. (System)

I removed and reinstalled SQL Server . Installation was all rigtht with no errors.

I got the hotfix from : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912017/EN-US/ and installed the patch.

But it did not help.

Both the olap and browser service run .

I do appreciate any practical advice that can help me solv this issue

SQL Server AS servicen runs under LocalSystem account.
My logon account - an NT domain account - is member of the Local Administrators group .
(All SQL Server services run locally on My XP workstation).

That is not supposed to raise any access rigths problems as far as I can see it.

I added my account to the local group SQLServer2005MSOLAPUser$host_name$MSSQLSERVER,
but it did not help.

The error message is the same.

I could not connect either.

However, migrating of SQL 2000 AS database (cubes, dimension, etc.) to SQL 2005 AS works.

So the migration module CAN REALLY CONNECT to SQL 2000 AS!
