Hi, I have a SQL 2000 installation that I want to upgrade to 2005 and wanted to ask if it is possible to just detach the database and reattach it to the 05 install which is on a new machine.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Yes. You can upgrade by detaching the db on SQL 2000 and attaching it on SQL 2005.

Absolutely! This is the way we did it when we migrated to SQL 2005. Don't forget to change the compatibility level of your db afterwards though (sp_dbcmptlevel '<database name>', 90)

Surely, backup is good advice!

Always backup prior to substantial operation!

Russell,

How did you move the DTS packages?

Russel,

Actually can you outline the entire migration you did?

Thanks, Kalman
