Hi All,

We have a QA database with all the lab test data for our products and have about 50 tables. These data consist with test summaries and test details data along with standards etc. User needs to access these data randomly and they want them all to export to excel so that they can manipulate this data. How can this be done efficiently?

I am thinking about give them a GUI to select tables, fields and build there own where clause, and back end to build a SQL and pass it DB to give them the result set so that they can export it to Excel.

Can this be done? Or if some one knows from where I can get some information related to this kind of a project please pass that to me.

Appreciate your input.

A cheap and dirty alternative, with little training, is he can build the same query in Query Analyser by dragging and dropping the required objects. Create views on the underlying tables with more descriptive table and column names for thier convenience. Proper security will also restrict them to those objects only.
