Can anybody recommend a SQL Server auditing tool, particularly one that monitors and records data changes (inserts, updates, deletes), logins, and other kinds of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance issues? It would be preferrable if this tool did not use triggers or other such things that cause too much DB overhead, and of course if it came with a decent set of built-in reports (as well as customizable ones).

I don't think that you will find many tools that don't use triggers for auditing data changes.

I would suggest you try some of the better auditing tools like Renhold Software's SQL Table Audit or Krell's Omni Audit. Perhaps do a performance comparison between them and see which one causes least overhead. I think they both use triggers but that is just one of those tradeoff's.
