Hi i just taken over sql database SQL 2005 and the databases are set to compatibility 90.
Now i am to determine if application supports the 90 mode and doing the various checks before changing anything...and i know to rebuild the statistcs and re index everything.

The question is no index builds ever done or any update statistics on the databases with mode 90.
The question is running index rebuilds and updating statistics on compatibility 80 databases that are sitting on SQL 2005. Will this still be wise to do or just get the databases of SQL 2005 back on to SQL 2000. Does it use the "old optimizer" for 80 compability mode databases.
I guess what is the problem of running the update statistics/indexes on MODE 80 databases besides not using the new optimizer query plans that SQL 2005 uses.

Cheers
