We have several DTS packages with the data sources located in remote locations. Id like my DTS' to first "ping" the remote device and it's available then proceed with the DTS Task.
If it's unavailable then the scheduled package stops and waits for the next schduled time to run again.
Currently, if the frame line drops and then the DTS scheduled time comes up, it just sits there saying "executing". I have to stop it and restart when I get to work.
Thanks for the help and any suggestions.

thank you very much. I'm certainly closer than I was. I do have quick question, I created an ActiveX task and placed the code in there and changed the IP to the correct one. Then setup a Success Flow over to what was the original task. Everything worked, but I then typed in a wrong IP and the package ran thru anyway after about 10 seconds of waiting.
In the Global Variable I created, I do need to add the ip address of the remote system as well??
thx
