I need to import a file from a mainframe ( yes I know what year it its...) and each row starts with a one character identifier that indicates what type of data the row contains. For example a 'P' means the rows contains information about a policy, 'R' means the row contains information about a rider to a policy etc. There are four different row types in the file. After the row identifier each row has fixed width columns that contain the data for that row and the size and number of the fixed width columns varies depending upon the row identifier character. The question is, what is the easiest way to handle this in DTS. My first thought would be to use an active-x script to split the file up into four separate files first then import each of these as you normally would any fixed width file in DTS but I'd like to know if there is a better way. Any Thoughts?
