Hello,

In SQL Server 2000 versions prior to SP4 I was able to modify a replicated column by dropping the subscription and the article of that particular table. I Then made my modifications, and then added the article and subscription back to that table. However, in SQL 2000 SP4 and SQL 2005, it will let me drop the subscription and the article, but when I am ready to re-add the article and subscription, it gives me the following error:

Msg 14046, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MSdrop_article, Line 75
Could not drop article. A subscription exists on it.

Here is an example script:

exec sp_dropsubscription @publication = 'tTestFNames'
, @article = 'tEmployees'
, @subscriber = 'RSCOMPUTER'
, @destination_db = 'testrep'

exec sp_droparticle @publication = 'tTestFNames'
, @article = 'tEmployees'

alter table tEmployees alter column Forename varchar(100) null

exec sp_addarticle @publication = 'tTestFNames'
, @article = 'tEmployees'
, @source_table = 'tEmployees'

Normally, the next step woud be the following script, but I don't even get this far due to the errors:

exec sp_addsubscription @publication = 'tTestFNames'
, @article = 'tEmployees'
, @subscriber = 'RSCOMPUTER'
, @destination_db = 'testrep'

Thanks for any help on this problem,
