We are executing FTP.bat file from the sql job as OS command in SQL2000, lately
we are seeing in the output file as "connection closed by remote host", due to
which the files are not getting FTP'ed from mas90 box(unix box) to SQL server.
Is there any way to get email notification if such things happen. Thanks!

Make it into a DTS package.

On error you send an email.

Schedule the DTS package with SQL Agent.

You can make job step for that too.

Actually I made that as job step, but the problem I am having is for example:
In the output file, contents are below:
connected to the server;
Connection closed by remote host.

I do'nt think the sql job is considering this as failure of FTP and then it keeps moving to the next step.
BTW, this is a batch file we are using to bring SOA files from the mas90(unix) box to sql server. Please let me know if you have any ideas, thanks!!

I mean you can add another step to parse output file or check existence of SOA file, send alert if see that message or doesn't see SOA file. My point is don't have to switch whole process to dts, and even dts package can't tell it's failure without proper step.

How can I parse the FTPoutput.txt file? Do I need to look for "Connection closed by remote host" text in the FTPoutputfile? Can you please send me some examples on this or refer me to some articles. Thanks!!
