There is a new possibility in SQL Server 2005 (and 2008) AS, although you can still go the 2000 AS way (individual cubes).
In 2005, you can have multi-fact tables (multi-fact star schema)
with shared (and private) dimensions.
You can build one huge cube. Then you can have perspectives
(mini-cubes - this corresponds to the 2000 OLAP cubes) on the huge cube.
Pls. note in some software like Reporting Services the perspectives actually called cubes.
If your current 2000 cubes don't share anything, then the above approach may not help you.
