I have 2 existing development/test sql server 2000 environments and now have been handed a new 64 bit server to add to this mix. In my world have existing 3 party apps and DTS packages. Should I install the 32 bit version of sql 2000 enterprise edition on this new box to play well with my existing world, or install the 64 bit version

No not worried about upgrade, this is on a virtaul server, the other vs is sql 2005, more interested in any compatibility issues. Will be taking full backups from other 32 bit sql 2000 boxes and restoring them to this box, and running DTS packages created on other boxes

i would go for the 64bit.

ultimately; that is where we are all headed any way, and it would save you from planning for a second upgrade/migration
strategy in the future when you have to do it any way.

just like terabyte is the new gig... 64bit is the new 32.
