I've setup a new instance of a linked server as follows:

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@server=LINKEDSERVER,
@srvproduct = 'SQLServer OLEDB Provider',
@provider = 'SQLOLEDB',
@datasrc = 'BHICELSQL01'

This works well within the LAN of our site (Query Analyzer & ADO). But if I redo the same from another site connected over WAN I get an error while using ADO (see below), but get success using Query Analyzer :-(

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (0x80040E14)
Could not find server 'LINKEDSERVER' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers.

Any ideas are more than welcome..

I tried both, adding server via sp_addlinkedserver and via Enterprise Manager. All cases have had the same bad result :-(

In the meantime I was able to get it work, but I'm not really sure about the solution. Just after playing with some network parameters the linked server was visible and accessible. I guess there is/was something wrong with the network port used for listening, because the setting was not the default port 1433. So maybe the router/firewall between these two LAN's blocked something?!?
