Has anyone ever accomplished merge replication between a SQL 2k Publisher and a MSDE subscriber? I keep getting the following errors on the merge agent:

The process could not connect to Subscriber 'DEV17\MSDESOS1'.
(Source: DEV17\MSDESOS1 (Agent); Error number: 20084)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
(Source: DEV17\MSDESOS1 (Data source); Error number: 17)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is my first attempt at using replication. I was able to get replication working from SQL2k to SQL2k, but MSDE doesn't want to work. Any ideas?

Thanks

That is the model we are using. The only way we got it to work was to have every subscriber use the same exact login to go back to the publisher. We just used the system login to ensure that it had the rights needed - once we did that, it connected just fine...Also, SP3 helped in the setting up of replication. We couldn't get it to work until we installed SP3...
