I need to find some information regarding the use of multiple reporting services servers with a single instance of SQL Server. We have multiple SQL Server licenses, so that's not an issue. But we want to be able to run Reporting Services on two machines, but connect them both to a single instance of SQL Server. Any information or points in the right direction would be appreciated.

Hi
We have MS Cluster Active/Passive (MSSQL + IIS) and below you can see steps :

Installation Report Server on MS Cluster Active/Passive (MSSQL + IIS).

Install RS on Node1* (RS Database name ReportServer)

Install SP1 on Node1

Check that Report Manager is working correctly on Node1

Move group to Node2

Install RS on Node2* (RS Database name ReportServer1)

Install SP1 on Node2

Check that Report Manager is working correctly on Node2

Backup ReportServer and ReportServerTemp Databases.

On Node2 run from Command line:
Rsconfig.exe -c -s NMSSQL -d ReportSrver - a Windows -u “LAB\Administrator” -p “Password”

Restart RS service and IIS on Node2

Detach ReportServer1 and ReportServerTemp1 databases

Try to call up Report Manager in the browser , it should fail - telling you that the RS installation is not initialized.

Check RSReportServer.config file and find the GUID “InstallationId” node.
The GUID must be in ”Keys” tabe in RS Database.Assuming that you have find five entries in the Keys table (Two enties for each node + {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000})

Move group to Node1

On Node1 run from Command line:
Rsactivate -m NODE2 -u “LAB\Administrator” -p “Password”

At this point you should be able to have a working Reporting Services configuration on two nodes of Cluster.
