Right now, we have 2 SQL 2008 Standard instances, and I am noticing something that is causing me a little concern.

Every time that I have a made a change to a table schema, I have had to drop and re-create the table.  It doesn't matter if the table has data in it or not.

In 2005 Standard, I rarely have to drop and re-create the table for column modifications.

I am a system administrator on the SQL boxes.

Any thoughts?

If you're using the GUI to do it, the table will be dropped and recreated. If you use T-SQL statement (ALTER TABLE) it will not

Yes Russell is correct in that most (not 100%) of changes made to tables via SSMS result ina drp and recreate due to the way the tool was written. I never recommend usign the GUI to make changes to production box's. Script out the ALTER commands instead.
