That is not a whole lot of information to go on. How big is the database? What is the network connection like between where the backups are stored and where the server is? What is the disk configuration of the disks? Is the backup coming from tape or disks? All of these things can be a factor in why the restore is going slow. What are you basing the slowness on? Have you had other similar types of restores that have been quicker?

Thanks J013-B.

Database is est. 90GB.

All configurations of Network, server hardware, disk, and SQL Server(2005 Ent) are same on same VM.
Only diff is O/S.
Same DB restore takes 2hours on Windows server 2003 R2; 4.5hours on Windows server 2008 R2.

That is a good place to start. Where are the backups coming from? They are not stored on another VM sharing resources with your 2008 VM, are they? What is the distance between the server you are restoring to and the backups?
